Mirror Grange: The book of the Daily Mirror's House for Pip, Squeak and Wilfred (c.1930) (SOLD)
A fascinating and delightful volume about the design and creation of a miniature old English manor house complete with contents, commissioned by the Daily Mirror as a home for the characters of its famous cartoon strip and as a monument to British artistry and craftsmanship. This model house, designed by Maxwell Ayrton and George Sheringham with contributions from artists including Sir Arthur Cope and Sir William Orpen, was constructed with painstaking care during 1929, and afterwards exhibited at the Grafton Galleries to raise money for the Heritage Craft Schools for Crippled Children at Chailey (still in existence as Chailey Heritage School). The book includes numerous photographs, together with a colour frontispiece and three Pip, Squeak and Wilfred cartoons by regular illustrator A. B. Payne.
Whilst this original vintage book shows various signs of age (see condition description below), it remains complete and fully legible, and would make a lovely addition to a collection of vintage art / craft related books or childhood memorabilia.
