Product description

Marguerite Patten (ed.), "Cookery in Colour" (1961) - vintage recipe book (SOLD)

Marguerite Patten (ed)., "Cookery in Colour: A picture encyclopedia for every occasion" (London, Paul Hamlyn, 1960; second impression, 1961). Hardcover (blue-grey cloth boards, gilt titles), unpaginated, measuring approximately 21.9 x 29.2 x 3cm (8.6 x 11.5 x 1.2in). A comprehensive collection of over 1000 recipes and pieces of cookery advice from the veteran cookery writer, with recipes including "Steak Elizabetta with Mustard Dumplings," "Sweet Corn Pie" and "White Chiffon Cake" (and a section entitled "Television Snacks & Sandwiches"), plus numerous black-and-white and colour illustrations.

No dustjacket; the cover is very grubby and much marked and discoloured (especially to the spine) together with age wear including surface scuffs, tearing / splitting to the spine ends, and wear and bumping to the edges and corners; the rear hinge has split (become detached from the text block) with parallel tearing to the paper of the inside back cover (only affecting the very edge of the text thereon); the pages (and likewise the inside covers and endpapers) are discoloured with tanning to the edges and various marks together with age wear including creases, occasional tears, and considerable edge and corner wear, whilst the front flyleaf bears an original gift inscription in ink dated 1963. It nevertheless remains complete and fully legible throughout, and is therefore sold as a reading, working or reference copy of this useful vintage recipe book.
