Skeat, late student of Newnham College, Junior Lecturer in Modern Languages at the Royal Holloway College. Authorised Edition" (Siepmann's Advanced French Series) (London, Macmillan & Co., Limited / New York, The Macmillan Company, 1899). Late Victorian hardback book (dark blue-green cloth boards with embossed titles to front and gilt titles to spine), 176pp plus title, contents and introductory pages, measuring approximately 12.5 x 17.8 x 1.5cm (4.9 x 7 x 0.6in). Study text in French with notes in English, vocabulary and exercises, and a plan of Paris showing places mentioned in the text, which comprises the short prose works "Un Accident", "La Medaille", "Les Vices du Capitaine", "Le Remplacant", "Le Parrain" and "La Vieille Tunique".
 
No dustjacket; the cover is marked and discoloured with age wear including surface wear and indentations to the boards, wear and bumping to edges and corners, creasing to the spine and splitting to the spine hinges; both front flyleaves are signed by the original owner in ink, and the rear flyleaf has been written on in pencil; the pages are discoloured with tanning to edges, a few annotations and other marks and stains, together with some creasing, bumping and general reading wear, whilst the binding is slightly weak in places.
