Eleanour Sinclair Rohde (illustrated by Hilda M. Coley), "Culinary and Salad Herbs: Their Cultivation and Food Values, with Recipes" (London, Country Life Ltd., 1940, reprinted 1942). Hardcover (green cloth boards, black printed titles), 107pp, measuring approximately 14.1 x 20 x 1.8cm (5.55 x 7.85 x 0.7in). This vintage gardening-cum-cookery book, dedicated to the author's "war-time guests J. B., S. B., M. B., P. B." (presumably evacuees), and incorporating previously published articles, includes chapters on "Planning a Herb Garden," "Culinary Herbs: A Descriptive List," "The Drying of Herbs," "Uses of Herbs" (such as herb butters, vinegars and teas) and "Salads" (with recipes including "Cucumber, Melon and Mint Salad" and "Mushroom Jelly Salad," together with various dressings).
No dustjacket; the cover is discoloured and partly faded with some marks together with age wear including tearing / splitting to the cloth along the spine edges, scuffing to the surface, and wear and bumping to the edges and corners; the pages (and likewise the inside covers and endpapers) are discoloured with tanning to the edges, foxing and other marks (including the original owner's name in ink with the date 1944 to the front flyleaf, and occasional pencil marks) together with moderate edge and corner wear including occasional nicks / indentations.
