Edward Step, F.L.S. (revised by A. Keith Jackson and A. Bruce Jackson, A.L.S.), "Wayside and Woodland Trees: A Guide to the British Sylva. With 24 colour plates by Dorothy Fitchew, 151 half-tone plates and 58 text figures. Also pictorial keys of leaves and buds to facilitate identification" (London and New York, Frederick Warne & Co. Ltd., 1948, third reprint of 1940 "New Edition"). Hardcover (dark green leather-effect textured boards, gilt and black printed titles with gilt flower motif to front), 186pp plus title and introductory pages and plates, measuring approximately 12.7 x 17.3 x 3.4cm (5 x 6.8 x 1.35in). A vintage nature guide book, intended "to afford a straightforward means for the identification of our [British] trees and larger shrubs for the convenience of the rural rambler and Nature-lover."
 
This is an ex-school library copy, with library stamps to the opening pages, and the first page (between the front flyleaf and the title page) has been torn out. No dustjacket; the cover is discoloured with some small ink stains and other marks together with age wear including scratches and scuffs to the surface and wear to the edges and corners; the pages (and likewise the inside covers and endpapers) are discoloured with tanning to the edges and various marks (including slight ink staining to the top edges, a previous owner's name to the front flyleaf, and the library stamps already mentioned) together with moderate reading wear including a few corner creases, and there is some weakness to the binding in places.
