Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria (1897) antique commemorative ornamental cup and saucer by Foley China (SOLD)
An antique commemorative ornamental cup and saucer by Foley China, produced to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria (1837-1897), in white glaze with gilt trim, the cup having a hand-coloured transfer design of the Royal arms with the words "LONGEST AND MOST GLORIOUS REIGN / SIXTY YEARS / 1837 - LONG - VICTORIA - LIVE - 1897" to one side and a hand-coloured floral transfer design incorporating roses, thistles and clover to the other side and to the interior, whilst the saucer is decorated with matching hand-coloured transfers. The saucer, which measures approximately 13cm (5.1in) across (max), is marked to the base with a black "THE FOLEY CHINA / ENGLAND / Rd. 290929" printed stamp over an impressed number; the cup, which measures approximately 4.7cm (1.85in) in height and 8.7cm (3.45in) across at the top (max, excluding handle) bears an incomplete black printed Foley China stamp and a dark green printed "Rd. 208329" together with small incised and gilt marks.
The cup is finely crazed throughout; both cup and saucer have some age wear including scratching to surfaces, wear to gilt, and wear and imperfections to the decoration, together with manufacturing imperfections including tiny spot marks and tiny bumps in the glaze.
