zz Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (1953) "Copescope" advertising souvenir periscope (SOLD)
Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (1953) "Copescope" advertising souvenir periscope (SOLD)
An original vintage commemorative "Coronation Copescope" folding periscope, made of printed card with twin glass mirrors, produced as a souvenir of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (June 2nd, 1953) - presumably for spectators of the Coronation processions in London - by a company called Cope's. (This may have been the tobacco firm of Cope Bros and Co, although the item makes no mention of tobacco nor of any other product, and indeed Cope Bros and Co had recently been taken over by another firm). The periscope is printed with instructions for use, a diagram of "The Royal Route" to be taken by the processions to and from Westminster Abbey, and suggestions for other uses ("It will enable you to get a grandstand view of Horse Racing, Football, Pageants, Speedway Racing...").
Although the periscope shows assorted signs of age (see condition description below), it remains displayable, and would make a lovely addition to a collection of British royal or vintage advertising memorabilia.
