zz Art Deco vintage frosted amber glass geometric "star" globe-type lampshade / light shade (c.1930s) (SOLD)
Art Deco vintage frosted amber glass geometric "star" globe-type lampshade / light shade (c.1930s) (SOLD)
A c.1930s vintage Art Deco geometric "star" globe-type lampshade / light shade, suitable for use with a table lamp or ceiling fitting, in amber glass (part-frosted to exterior), measuring approximately 18cm (7.1in) across (max), with the opening measuring approximately 8cm (3.15in) in external diameter. The shade comes complete with the original off-white plastic / Bakelite 3 1/2 inch gallery (shade holder), which measures approximately 9.5cm (3.75in) in diameter, with lampholder hole approximately 2.9cm (1.15in) in diameter (suitable for a standard UK BC lampholder); if preferred, reproductions in brass or chrome finish are available from specialist dealers.
There are a few chips together with some nibbling and roughness to the edge of the opening (which is of course hidden by the gallery when the shade is in use), together with slight roughness / nibbling to a few of the external points, whilst there is slight marking to the surface including some tiny paint specks; there are some manufacturing imperfections in the glass including air bubbles, whilst four vertical moulding seam lines are visible; the gallery is marked and discoloured (especially around the lampholder hole) with one or two very slight cracks to the edge and some surface rust to the bolts. Please note that the shade is comparatively heavy (about 720g / 1.6lb); if it is to be used as a pendant light we would therefore recommend that it be hung from a fitting with a chain or sturdy stem.
