zz Art Deco large vintage marbled glass hanging bowl lampshade / light shade - white with pink-brown marbling (c.1920s-30s) (SOLD)
Art Deco large vintage marbled glass hanging bowl lampshade / light shade - white with pink-brown marbling (c.1920s-30s) (SOLD)
A c.1920s-30s vintage Art Deco large hanging bowl (or "flycatcher") lampshade / light shade, measuring approximately 35cm (13.8in) in diameter and 12.5cm (4.9in) deep, in white flake glass with clear veining and dark brown marbling with a hint of pink (the glass is moulded in two layers, with a satin finish both inside and out). In addition to the three original hanging hooks, this shade is supplied with a triple ceiling hook in oxidised copper finish (approximately 9.3cm / 3.65in in diameter) and a set of three chains in a similar finish (each about 37cm / 14.6in long); these are of similar vintage to the shade and may be original to it, and in any case suit it well.
There is some surface wear to the shade including scratching, abrasion and marking, whilst there are several smallish chips together with nibbling and roughness to the edges of the rim (some of which may date from manufacture), together with manufacturing irregularities including slight unevenness to the surface and air bubbles in the glass; there is some corrosion, considerable tarnish and marking to the chains and hooks (the shade hooks are somewhat rusty, and there are some old paint marks to the chains). The ceiling hook has three mounting holes, and will therefore probably need to be screwed to a wooden pattress block rather than directly to the joist; suitable reproduction blocks are available from specialist suppliers. In any case, please note that this shade is heavier than most bowl light shades (about 2kg / 4.4lb including chains and hooks), so please ensure that your ceiling supports can take its weight before you order!
