"12 Real Photo Snaps of Stratford-on-Avon" with original card wallet (late 1930s) - vintage souvenir views (SOLD)
A late 1930s vintage set of "12 Real Photo Snaps of Stratford-on-Avon" (Stratford-upon-Avon), each measuring approximately 8.5 x 6.8cm (3.35 x 2.7in), complete with their original card wallet, which measures approximately 9.4 x 7.5 x 0.5cm (3.7 x 2.95 x 0.2in). The black-and-white photo views respectively depict (in no particular order): Anne Hathaway's Cottage (interior); River Avon and Holy Trinity Church; Bridges and River; Anne Hathaway's Cottage (exterior); High Street; Bridge Street; Shakespeare Memorial Theatre (the building opened in 1932 and now known as the Royal Shakespeare Theatre); Grammar School; The Shakespeare Hotel and Guild Chapel; Shakespeare's House (exterior); Shakespeare's House (The Birth Room); River and Church. All 12 snaps have "May 29th 1939 / Whit Monday" - presumably the date of the original purchaser's visit - written on the back in pencil.
The card wallet is very much worn, marked and discoloured with creases, tears and splitting to the edges; the snaps themselves have slightly curved, and have some discoloration with tanning and foxing to the edges together with various marks (mainly to the backs) and age wear including some scratches and indentations, but remain perfectly displayable.
