Product description

Your Driving Test: How To Pass It - Oliver Stewart (Pitman's Motorists Library, 1938)

Oliver Stewart, "Your Driving Test: How To Pass It. A full description of the Ministry of Transport Motor Driving Licence Tests, Road and Oral, with instructions on preparing for them, and a simple system of memorizing the new Highway Code. Second Edition (Reprinted)" ("Pitman's Motorists Library" series: London, Sir Isaac Pitman & Sons, Ltd.; first published 1935, second edition 1937, reprinted 1938). Vintage motoring book (cream board covers with burgundy cloth spine), 132pp plus title, contents and advertisement pages (mainly for other Pitman motoring publications), measuring approximately 12.3 x 18.4 x 1.4cm (4.85 x 7.25 x 0.55in). "Motor driving tests were instituted by the Ministry of Transport in 1935 ... It is the purpose of this book to give in full the text of the official test requirements; to explain them and to set out a simple and effective method of preparing for them, together with an appropriate programme of exercises." Whilst obviously unsuitable for use in preparing for a present-day driving test, this book is of historical interest - for instance, in its pictures of the road signs of the time - whilst it is fair to say that some of the advice it gives still holds good!

No dustjacket; the cover is discoloured with damp stains and other marks together with age wear including slight edge and corner wear, whilst the surface of the spine cloth has been damaged by damp; the pages are discoloured with tanning to some edges, numerous pencil markings, annotations and underlinings, slight foxing and other occasional marks, together with a few corner creases and slight edge / corner wear; the binding is slightly weak in places.
