William Baird, "General Wauchope" (Edinburgh and London, Oliphant Anderson and Ferrier, fifth edition, 1907). Edwardian hardback military biographical book, 212pp (plus eight illustrations and some pages of advertisements for other publications), measuring approximately 13.3 x 19.7 x 3.1cm (5.25 x 7.75 x 1.2in). A biography of Major-General Andrew Gilbert Wauchope (1846-99), leader of the Highland Brigade, who fell in the Boer War at Magersfontein in December 1899, in attempting to relieve the garrison of Kimberley. The inside front cover bears a prize presentation label to the original owner (from the Lostwithiel United Methodist Sunday School), whilst the original owner's name is pencilled on the front flyleaf.
 
No dustjacket; the cover is worn, bumped, marked and discoloured with some fading; there is considerable foxing to the inside covers and adjacent pages, whilst the top of the inside back cover and of several adjacent pages is stained red with dye from the cover; the pages are foxed with tanning and marking throughout, together with age discoloration and some bumping to the edges; the binding is somewhat weak, with the cover becoming detached from the pages on the inside front.
