Lieutenant-Colonel H. Moyse-Bartlett, "The King's African Rifles: A Study in the Military History of East and Central Africa, 1890-1945" (Aldershot, Gale & Polden Ltd., 1956, first edition). Vintage hardback book (black cloth boards with gilt titles to spine and regimental badge to front), 727pp plus title, contents and introductory pages, eleven fold-out maps and several illustrations, measuring approximately 16 x 24.8 x 5cm (6.3 x 9.75 x 1.95in). A history of the King's African Rifles (a British colonial regiment): "By tracing the origins of the Regiment, and describing the part it played in the pacification of its home territories and the prosecution of two major wars [i.e. the First and Second World Wars], this book places on record the debt which Britain and her administrations in East and Central Africa owe to their African soldiers."
 
The dustjacket is much discoloured / faded and marked with considerable wear including tearing, bumping and some loss to edges and corners, wear to folds, creases, scratches and indentations, but has not been price-clipped; there is some discoloration / fading to the edges of the cover together with moderate age wear mainly to the edges / corners; the inside covers / endpapers are browned with foxing and other marks, the front endpaper bearing a previous owner's inscription in blue ink dated "August '63"; the pages are discoloured with tanning to the edges, occasional foxing and other marks together with moderate reading wear including some light creases, whilst there is some creasing, bumping and slight tearing to some of the fold-out maps.
