The Child's World - Phyllis Hostler (Penguin, 1959) - vintage parenting / psychology book
Phyllis Hostler, "The Child's World" (Penguin Handbooks, PH 45) (originally published 1953; this edition Harmondsworth, Penguin Books Ltd, 1959). Vintage softcover parenting / child psychology book (cover design by Gwen McKerrow), 208pp, measuring approximately 11 x 18 x 1.1cm (4.35 x 7.1 x 0.45in). "This book does not set out to describe specific problems of children's behaviour and to prescribe appropriate treatment for them. Its aim is to show why children behave as they do and how we can make our behaviour intelligible to them. It is divided into three sections, dealing with the child in the world (his adjustment to it), the child in the home (his relationships in the family), and the child in himself (his fears, fantasies and questions)."
No dustjacket; the cover is discoloured and partly faded with some marking together with age wear including creases, indentations, and bumping to edges and corners, and there is considerable foxing and slight damp staining to the inside covers; the pages are browned with some foxing (mainly to the edges and end pages) and other occasional marks together with moderate edge and corner wear.
