An anteater, a python, a lame tortoise, a monkey and a baby owl called Walt are just some of the characters in this entertaining story, which evokes all the magic and mystery of India." (The author, mother of anthropologist and historian Alan Macfarlane, spent many years in that country, and was married to an Assam tea planter.)
 
The dustjacket is discoloured with various marks including damp staining to the lower edge, together with age wear including scratches and indentations to the surface and bumping, creasing, tearing and slight loss to the edges; the boards are discoloured with slight damp staining to the lower edge and other slight marks together with age wear including bumping, corner / edge creases and indentations; there is a small green felt-tip pen or similar mark to the inside front cover, whilst the front flyleaf has indentations to the top right corner where an old pencil price has been rubbed out; the pages are discoloured with some foxing and other marks (mainly to the edges), together with some edge wear and a few creases.
