Product description

Sporting Pictures of England - Guy Paget ("Britain in Pictures" series, 1945)

Guy Paget, D.L, F.R.H.S., "Sporting Pictures of England. With 12 plates in colour and 21 illustrations in black and white" ("Britain in Pictures" series, no. 87) (London, Collins, 1945, first edition). Hardcover (matt paper-covered boards) with original matching dustwrapper, 48pp plus colour plates (six double-sided leaves), measuring approximately 16.6 x 22.9 x 1.2cm (6.55 x 9 x 0.45in). A readable and accessible illustrated overview of English / British sporting (i.e. horse racing, hunting etc.) art and artists including George Stubbs, Ben Marshall, Sir Edwin Landseer and others less famous.

The dustjacket is discoloured and marked with age wear including scratches, indentations and creases, together with bumping and tearing / splitting to the edges, corners and spine, and slight loss to corners and spine ends; the cover is slightly marked (and perhaps slightly discoloured) with age wear including creasing and splitting to the spine, a small patch of surface damage to the upper back cover, and wear including bumping and surface loss to the edges and corners (there is also some light surface creasing - probably dating from new - to the front); the inside covers and endpapers are discoloured with foxing and other marks, the front endpaper being indented to the top right where old pencil marks have been erased, whilst the pages are to a lesser extent discoloured and marked with slight reading wear; there is slight cracking to the spine in one or two places. The book nonetheless remains complete and fully legible throughout, and would make a lovely addition to a collection of sporting memorabilia or art-related books.
