Small collection of antique / vintage Goss and Foley crested china relating to London (Hammersmith, Westminster, City of London)
A small collection of three pieces of antique / vintage crested china relating to districts of London, England, dating from the late 19th or early 20th centuries, as follows:
(a) A W. H. Goss crested china milk jug / creamer with "Hammersmith" crest and gilt rim, measuring approximately 6.2cm (2.45in) in height, 8cm (3.15in) in diameter and 10.8cm (4.25in) across including handle and lip; the base is marked with the black printed Goshawk stamp together with small painted and gilt marks. There is slight age wear including a few light scratches, slight wear to the gilt rim and slight marking (mainly to the foot), although the crest is in good condition apart from slight discoloration to the red paint; there are some imperfections in the glaze including numerous tiny pockmarks, some spot marks, tiny bumps and pinholes, and some unglazed / semi-glazed areas to the exterior around the base.
(b) A W. H. Goss crested china model of a Roman urn from Silchester, with "Westminster" crest and gilt rim, measuring approximately 5.1cm (2in) in height and 3.3cm (1.3in) in diameter at the top; the base is marked with the black printed Goshawk mark with the description "MODEL OF ROMAN URN / FROM SILCHESTER / IN READING MUSEUM" together with a yellow painted mark. The crest is in good condition, although there is very slight wear to the gilt rim together with a few short scratches to the surface; there are some minor manufacturing imperfections including some unevenness in the glaze, whilst the twin vertical moulding seams are visible.
(c) A Foley China (Wileman & Co.) crested china flower-shaped saucer, c.1895-1910, with "The Arms of the City of London" crest and gilt rim, measuring approximately 12.9cm (5.1in) across at its widest; the underside bears the green printed "THE FOLEY CHINA / ENGLAND" crown and monogram mark, together with a small red painted dot and the impressed registration number "RD 115510". There is some age wear including scratching and abrasion to the surface, wear to the gilt, and wear and imperfections to the crest (most noticeably along the raised lines of the moulding); there are various manufacturing imperfections in the glaze including slight unevenness to the surface, slight roughness to the edges, several tiny spot marks and bumps, and a few tiny pinholes.
