Rowntree's chocolate - vintage commemorative tin - London, Coronation of George VI (1937)
 
A 1930s vintage commemorative chocolate tin by Rowntree's (empty), produced to mark the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937, with hinged lid and gold finish to the exterior, measuring approximately 17.6 x 9.2 x 2.4cm (6.95 x 3.6 x 0.95in). The lid is decorated with Royal ciphers and twin oval portraits of the King and Queen together with the words "CORONATION SOUVENIR 1937 / Gift from THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF LONDON", whilst the base is printed "ROWNTREE & CO. LTD. / YORK, ENGLAND / Cocoa & Chocolate Makers".
 
There is considerable age wear, discoloration and tarnish to the exterior together with a few small rust patches, whilst there is some tarnish together with rust patches to the interior.
