Pros & Cons: A Guide to the Controversies of the Day - John Bertram Askew (1906)

A nice example of an Edwardian paperback book (being the fourth edition of a work first published in 1896), with thin card covers depicting a courtroom scene in colour to the front, and bearing an advertisement for Fry's Cocoa to the back. "The object of this little book is to place in the hands of the every-day reader and debater, in as fair and impartial a manner as may be possible, a concise, yet more or less comprehensive, statement of the opposing arguments advanced by the partisans of the several rival schools or theories which are at the present day striving to catch the ear of the public, whether in social, political, or religious spheres."

Whilst the book shows various assorted signs of age (see condition description below), it remains complete and fully legible throughout - and would make a lovely addition to a collection of vintage books, or a great accessory for display in a period room setting.
