Personality Parade - Godfrey Winn (1937) - vintage book of observations on 1930s life
 
Godfrey Winn, "Personality Parade" ("All of Humanity on a single page") (London, Peter Davies Ltd, 1937). Hardcover (pale buff matt boards), 136pp, measuring approximately 15.1 x 21.6 x 1.5cm (5.95 x 8.5 x 0.6in). A selection of items reprinted from the author's "Personality Parade" page of the Daily Mirror, covering the fifteen months up to October 1937, in which he set out "to write about real people and real happenings in a real way"; the contents include observations upon the abdication of King Edward VIII and the Coronation of King George VI, alongside miscellaneous commentaries upon life in general with references to people well known and otherwise.
 
No dustjacket; the cover is discoloured (especially to the bottom edge) with some marks, surface wear including indentations, slight scuffing and surface creasing, slight bumping to the edges and corners, tearing to the spine hinges and creasing to the spine; there is some discoloration and marking to the inside covers and endpapers, with surface creasing to the inside covers and a crease together with an old price in pencil to the top corner of the front endpaper; the pages are discoloured with some marks, corner creases and general wear including bumping to edges and corners, whilst the first (pre-title) page bears the date 1937 in blue ink together with the residue of an old label or bookplate since removed; there is some weakness to the binding.
