Nibs in Clover: A Billy Bunker Story - Ethel Nokes (c.1939) - vintage pony fiction book

Ethel Nokes, "Nibs in Clover: A Billy Bunker Story" (from "The Sovereign Series": London and Melbourne, Ward, Lock & Co., Limited; no publication date, although apparently published in 1939; this copy has a Sunday School prize presentation label dated 1954 attached to the front flyleaf). Vintage hardback children's fiction book (red cloth-effect boards, black printed titles to front and spine) with original pictorial dustwrapper, 256pp plus colour frontispiece, measuring approximately 12.9 x 17.9 x 3cm (5.1 x 7.05 x 1.2in). "Billy Bunker and Nibs the pony had been bosom companions until one sad day when they were parted and Nibs was sent to the country to be the playmate of the Frazer children, Muriel and John. Later, by an odd chance of fate, Billy Bunker finds employment in the very household to which Nibs had been sent, and a wonderful re-union brings joy to the heart of Billy - and make no mistake, Nibs as well."

The dustjacket has been price-clipped to the front flap, and is marked and discoloured with age wear including scratches, scuffs, a few small areas of surface damage, some foxing to the reverse, and creasing, tearing and slight loss to the edges and corners; the cover has some discoloration (mainly to the edges) and slight marking together with age wear including a linear indentation across the front, light creasing to the spine, and some wear and considerable bumping to the edges and corners; the pages, and likewise the inside covers and endpapers, are discoloured with some foxing (mainly to the page edges and end pages) and other marks together with edge and corner wear, and the frontispiece has come loose. The book nonetheless remains complete and fully readable, and would make a lovely addition to a collection of vintage children's fiction, or a display accessory for a recreation of a late 1930s, 1940s or early 1950s room setting.
