Eva Hope (pseudonym of Marianne Farningham), "Grace Darling, Heroine of the Farne Islands: Her Life, and its Lessons" (London and Newcastle-on-Tyne, Walter Scott, 1887). Victorian hardback biographical book (bevelled red cloth boards with gilt and printed decoration, gilt page edges), 312pp plus title, contents and dedication pages and six plates, measuring approximately 12.9 x 18.9 x 2.5cm (5.1 x 7.45 x 1in). A biography of the Victorian heroine who, with her father, rescued nine people from the wreck of the SS Forfarshire in 1838. The inside front cover bears an original prize presentation label from the York Street Academy, Wakefield.
 
No dustjacket; the cover is marked and discoloured with age wear including considerable tearing and splitting to the spine and slight loss to the spine ends, wear including bumping and slight loss to the edges and corners, and some scratching and scuffing to the boards; the pages are discoloured with tanning to edges, foxing and other marks together with age wear including creasing, bumping and a few short edge tears, whilst the binding is weak in parts, with the front endpaper and first two plates coming loose.
