Vintage hardback book (dark green cloth boards, silver titles to spine), 407pp plus title and contents pages and preface, measuring approximately 14.6 x 22.2 x 2.5cm (5.75 x 8.75 x 1in). An early 1960s edition of an agricultural / veterinary manual on the subject of pig-rearing, originally published in 1940; this fifth edition was thoroughly revised in order to take into account "the vast strides ... made in the development of the pig industry" following the Second World War and during the 1950s.
No dustjacket; the cover is discoloured and much marked with considerable surface damage in parts (apparently caused by melting of the surface and subsequent attempts at cleaning) together with slight tearing to the top of the spine, bumping to the edges and corners, scratching and general wear; the inside covers and endpapers are discoloured with foxing and other marks, the front endpaper being rubbed where old prices have been erased; the pages are discoloured with tanning to edges, foxing (mainly to the end pages), slight damp staining to a few page edges and other marks together with some edge, corner and general reading wear including a few corner creases and the odd slight edge tear; the binding is weak at the join between the front endpaper and the first page.
