Daily Mail Annual for Boys and Girls - ed. Susan French (c.1948) - vintage hardback book

Susan French (ed.), "Daily Mail Annual for Boys and Girls" (published by the Daily Mail, Northcliffe House, London; undated, but evidently published c.1948). Hardcover (brown cloth boards, black printed titles to front and spine), 208pp plus frontispiece, measuring approximately 18.2 x 23.6 x 2.3cm (7.15 x 9.3 x 0.9in). The miscellaneous contents of this late 1940s vintage children's book comprise several short stories (including "The Dog that Helped a Fairy" by Enid Blyton, "Rhona's Rescue" by Mollie Chappell, and "Teddy Tail in Dreamy Dale" by Percy A. Clarke), articles (including "Princess Margaret Grows Up" by Louis Wulff, M.V.O., and "Stamps on the Ocean Wave" by Colin Dale), pictures and illustrations (including several photographs of Princess Margaret, and sixteen colour pictures of wild flowers reproduced from a series of prints published in 1846), cartoons, verses and puzzles.

No dustjacket; the cover is much marked and discoloured with considerable age wear including bumping to the edges and corners, splitting to the cloth at the corners, and creasing along the spine, whilst the inside covers and endpapers are much discoloured and marked (the grey-brown background having turned blue-black in places); the  pages are discoloured with tanning to edges and various marks (most of the puzzles have been completed in pencil) together with age wear including creases, slight tears, indentations, and considerable edge and corner wear; the binding is somewhat weak although still intact.
