An unopened pack of Waddingtons standard-size playing cards, advertising "Wills's Gold Flake Cigarettes" with pictorial design featuring a cigarette packet, c.1930s-50s. The original box, which measures approximately 6.1 x 9.5 x 2cm (2.4 x 3.75 x 0.8in), has a sample card glued to one side; the cards themselves remain sealed in the original blue and white "John Waddington Ltd, Leeds and London, Duty Three Pence" tax wrapper (which indicates a date of pre-1960, since the Excise duty on playing cards was repealed in that year). There is slight age wear including slight bumping and marking to the box; the tax wrapper is in very good condition apart from slight bumping to the corners, and thus we presume the cards themselves are in excellent condition.
