A lovely vintage boxwood 6 inch rule / drawing instrument, engraved to both sides with various measurements, scales and angles, together with three set squares (two in transparent celluloid or similar plastic - one stamped "H & B. LTD. OXFORD" - without measurements, the other in plated metal stamped with measurements), in a blue-grey textured card and wood slipcase which is stamped "ST. ALBANS SCHOOL" to the top; although we are not sure of the exact age of these items, we believe them to date from between 1920 and 1960. The case, which measures approximately 17.7 x 9.4 x 2.4cm (6.95 x 3.7 x 0.95in), is very much worn, marked and discoloured with some splitting to edges, a pinprick to the upper surface and an area of damage to the base of the drawer which has been partly repaired with masking tape, whilst the drawer is somewhat stiff; there is some age wear to the rule including scratching, scuffing, edge wear (including a thin shaving about 1.2cm / 0.5in off the upper edge of one side) and moderate marking; the plastic set squares have yellowed with age, with considerable surface and slight edge wear, whilst the metal set square is tarnished with corrosion, pitting and wear to the surface.
