Vintage pottery vase in matt textured finish with maple leaf design, 1950s
A typically 1950s vintage pottery vase of unknown manufacture, measuring approximately 17.4cm (6.85in) in height (vertically along the gently sloping sides), 9.9cm (3.9in) in diameter at the top and 11.6cm (4.55in) in diameter at the base. The exterior is heavily textured and decorated in a matt cream painted finish with a black, red and gold maple leaf design, whilst the interior has a bright red glossy painted finish; to the base is written the original price (6 shillings) in pencil. Although there is slight wear to the exterior (mostly to the rim and foot), together with a few tiny chips and small marks to the painted surface of the interior, it is in very good condition for its age, especially considering that this kind of pottery was intended to be cheap and fashionable in appearance rather than durable.
