A 1950s vintage counter-top box of shoe laces, described as "superior quality, plastic tags, made entirely in England". The box, which measures approximately 17.7 x 12.7 x 5.5cm (6.95 x 5 x 2.15in), originally contained 1 gross (144) pairs of laces; it still contains 39 pairs of brown 23in laces with labels, plus two black pairs of the same length. Many of the laces and their labels have faded; the labels of the black pairs are very faded and torn, and one has become detached from its laces. The box itself, meanwhile, is much faded and discoloured with creasing, tearing and damp stains, and the staples (in one corner only) have rusted.
