A pretty vintage cornflower blue and white mottled Bakelite (strictly speaking, probably urea formaldehyde) darning mushroom, c.1930s, the domed lid of which unscrews to allow needles to be stored inside. The mushroom is approximately 11.5cm long, whilst the diameter of the lid is about 7.3cm; the inside of the lid is marked "W & G / MADE IN ENGLAND". There are some cracks or fault lines to one side of the lid, which are probably the result of a manufacturing defect; although these are very visible to the outside (and slightly visible to the inside), they would not prevent the mushroom from being used for its original purpose. There is also some nibbling to the edges, together with some marks and possible slight discoloration, moderate scratching and general age wear.
