A mid- to late Victorian pottery jug vase, in shiny salmon pink, dark brown and off-white glaze with dark red floral transfer decoration and (very worn) gilt trim to the exterior, off-white to the interior, measuring approximately 16cm (6.3in) in height, 10.3cm (4.05in) in diameter at its widest (excluding handle) and 7.2cm (2.85in) in internal diameter at the top (excluding lip); the base bears some small and indistinct pressed marks. The design is somewhat unusual in that, although the transfer decoration and the shape of the handle are very much Victorian, it might otherwise be mistaken, in its basic shape and colour, for a much later piece! The glaze is finely crazed throughout, with much grey staining to the interior, together with considerable age wear including scratching, abrasion and marking to the surface, a small chip to the outer edge of the lip, considerable wear to the gilt, wear / imperfections to the transfers, and wear and marking to the foot; there are some imperfections in the glaze including spot marks, tiny bumps and pinholes.
