A Victorian majolica ashtray (manufacturer unknown), in the form of a pool with a pattern of fish and aquatic plants on the outside, with a male Oriental figure, dressed in a bathing robe, seated on the edge. The piece measures approximately 10.5cm (4.15in) tall (including figure), 3.8cm (1.5in) tall (excluding figure), and 10cm (3.95in) in diameter at the base, which is unglazed and marked with a painted mark together with the impressed numbers "8684" and "2". There are three small chips or nibbles to the upper outer edge of the pool, together with a couple of tiny nibbles to the base edge, some age wear including scratching and marking to the surface, age wear and marking to the base, and some crazing to the interior; there are various manufacturing irregularities in the moulding and glaze.
