A late Victorian handpainted bisque porcelain nightlight holder in the form of a dog's head (a Yorkshire terrier), with orange and black glass eyes (and plaster of Paris or similar infill material behind the face), measuring approximately 9.6cm (3.8in) in height and 7.9 x 7.2cm (3.1 x 2.85in) at the base; there are no identifying marks. There is a crack about 4cm (1.55in) in length extending downwards from the rim to the right of the face, together with a shorter crack near the dog's right ear, some nibbles and shallow chips to the rim, and considerable age-related marking and discoloration; there are various imperfections dating from manufacture including a fault line above the nose and another to the lower left side (each about 1.5cm / 0.6in long) and numerous tiny spot marks.
