Two boxes containing a total of 25 skeins of very old green and yellow embroidery silks, probably dating from between 1900 and 1925. The silks are as follows: five skeins of "Glow-Worm 2 Fold Lustre Embroidery" in shade 12, one in shade 13 and three in shade 14 (all green; shades 12 and 13 appear practically identical), nine skeins of "Peri-Lusta Stout Embroidery" in shade 24 (olive green), and seven skeins of "Vicars' Lustrine Cable Embroidery" in shade 19 (golden yellow). All of the skeins retain their original labels except three of the "Peri-Lusta"; there are also two loose labels from "Esplen-d'Or" skeins. The "Glow-Worm" skeins, fully wound, measure approximately 18.5cm long, as do the "Vicars' Lustrine" skeins; the "Peri-Lusta" skeins are slightly shorter and narrower, although the cord itself appears to be of the same gauge. Each box is labelled "The "GLOW-WORM" / 2 Fold / LUSTRE EMBROIDERY. / (ENGLISH MANUFACTURE.)". Whilst the boxes are very tatty, with much wear, tear and marking, the silks themselves are in very good condition, although some may have slight fading / discoloration. Please note that whilst these are described as silks, and are silken in appearance, they are not guaranteed to be genuine silk.
