Hardcover (blue cloth boards with embossed design to front), 272pp, measuring approximately 12.3 x 17.1 x 2.3cm (4.85 x 6.75 x 0.9in). A late Victorian school textbook / reader, containing lessons on the World Map, Asia, Africa, North America, the West Indies, South America, Polynesia and the British Empire, with maps and engravings. "They are presented in the form of Reading Lessons, and consist of scenes of travel, pictures of the wonders of nature in far-off lands, descriptions of useful plants... and generally those productions of the Earth which form the chief commerce of the world." No dustjacket; the cover is discoloured (especially to the spine) with various marks and patches of water damage / bleaching, together with age wear including wear and bumping to the edges and corners and slight splitting to the spine ends; the inside covers / endpapers are heavily browned, and the front endpaper has been price-clipped; the pages are discoloured with tanning to the edges and some marks, together with some edge and corner wear, a few small corner creases, and light to moderate reading wear.
