A small ornamental round twin-handled souvenir china vase, late Victorian or early 20th century, measuring approximately 6.5cm (2.55in) in height and 6.3cm (2.5in) across from handle to handle, in dark blue glaze to the exterior with a coloured transfer view of "The Promenade Pier Plymouth" together with gilt decoration; the (unglazed) base is printed in black "Made / in / Germany". (The Promenade Pier was opened in 1884, the pavilion being added in 1891, and was destroyed in the Blitz in 1941.) There is slight age wear to the surface with considerable wear to the gilt, slight wear to the transfer and age marking to the base; there are numerous minor manufacturing irregularities including numerous tiny pinholes in the glaze and a small rough patch to the rim of the opening.
