"The Edinburgh Book of Plain Cookery Recipes - Revised and Enlarged Edition" (1932)

"The Edinburgh Book of Plain Cookery Recipes - Revised and Enlarged Edition" (London etc., Thomas Nelson and Sons, Ltd, 1932).  Hardcover (blue-grey cloth boards), 334pp plus several blank pages for own notes, measuring approximately 12.3 x 17.7 x 2cm (4.85 x 6.95 x 0.8in).  The Preface, by P. L. Wingfield (Principal of the Edinburgh College of Domestic Science), states: "This book is intended primarily for the use of students of the Edinburgh College of Domestic Science... however, these recipes should be of value to every housewife.  The ingredients used are such as are within the reach of the average household, and the dishes will provide simple, nourishing food."  No dustjacket; the cover is very worn, discoloured and marked with slight splitting / tearing to the cloth at the spine and corners; the pages are yellowed with considerable marking (including a green ink stain to the upper edges of the early pages) and occasional creases and bumps; the front endpaper bears the original owner's name in ink, and there is some pencil scribbling to the inside front cover and front endpaper, whilst two recipes have been added in pencil to the notes pages.  The book nevertheless remains complete, and is thus sold as a working or reference copy.
