"The Best Book For Schoolboys" (Collins' Bumper Books series: London and Glasgow, Collins' Clear-Type Press, n.d., c.1930s).  Boys' story book with board covers and printed cloth spine, approximately 194pp plus five colour plates (the frontispiece is missing), measuring approximately 20 x 26.9 x 4.5cm (7.85 x 10.6 x 1.75in).  This book, with pictorial front cover showing two young footballers in red shirts, contains stories by various authors including "The Tragedy at Mount Lydyard" by Herbert Hayens and "Won for the School" by Harold Avery, together with a few poems and articles on such subjects as "Hints on Moth Collecting" and "Highland Sports and Pastimes", and some black and white illustrations.  No dustjacket; the cover is discoloured with various pencil and other marks, together with considerable age wear including scratches and surface / paper loss to the boards, wear to the edges and corners, and wear and crinkling to the spine (which has an insect hole to the edge); the front endpaper has a small inkstamped bugle motif in each corner together with a pencil mark, whilst the pages are discoloured with some marks (including slight foxing), creases, occasional tears and considerable edge and corner wear; two pages are loose, and there is considerable weakness to the binding, with the cover coming loose from the text block at the front.
