Scarce children's picture story book with illustrated colour board covers (showing a girl in police costume with a cluster of Belisha beacons in the background) with original matching dustwrapper, approximately 125pp plus four colour plates, measuring approximately 20.7 x 25.6 x 3.4cm (8.15 x 10.1 x 1.35in). Includes stories, verses etc. by various authors, including "The Magic Sugar Stick" by Raine Inglis and "Merry Legs" by Meril Alney, together with numerous illustrations. The dustjacket is very much discoloured and marked with considerable wear including much tearing, creasing, bumping and some paper loss, and is lacking a front flap; the board covers are discoloured and marked with some age wear (mainly to the edges and corners, but also including a small puncture and one or two small indentations to the upper spine); the thick paper pages are considerably browned and tanned with some marks, together with edge wear including nicks and indentations, whilst the first page bears an original gift inscription in ink in the space provided for the owner's name; the colour plates are considerably marked and discoloured, two of them having small creases to the corners.
