Product description

Teddy Tells You How to be Safe (c.1952-53) - vintage children's road safety booklet

This delightful early 1950s vintage booklet, purporting to have been written by a girl called "Susan" and her "Teddy" with the assistance of Rose Fyleman, and with pictures by Emil Weiss, was produced by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (a.k.a. RoSPA) - with the approval of the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Education - to teach the rules of road safety to children; it contains several verses and poems illustrating the rules of the Highway Code, plus illustrations in colour throughout. One verse refers to "the Queen in her carriage," whilst another observes that "Teddy had his ration book / To buy himself some sweets"; this suggests that the booklet was produced after the accession of the present Queen Elizabeth II in 1952, but before (or not long after) the end of sweet rationing in the following year.

Although the booklet shows various signs of age (see condition description below), it remains complete and fully legible, and would make a lovely addition to a collection of vintage childhood or road transport memorabilia.
