description

A ceramic tea plate, probably pre-1930, measuring approximately 17.1cm (6.75in) in diameter, in white glaze with gilt rim and the words "St. Mabe Parish Church" (Mabe is a village in Cornwall, in the Penryn / Falmouth area) in Gothic-style lettering within a scrolled cartouche in gilt to the centre; the underside is unmarked apart from what may be a faint kite- or heart-shaped impressed stamp.  Apart from the gilt decoration, the plate is quite ordinary and not of particularly good quality, the glaze being unevenly applied; it is crazed all over, with staining to some of the crazing, and there is a crack about 2cm (0.8in) long to the underside edge, together with some wear to the gilt.
