A c.1930s moulded amethyst glass oval serving bowl in a typically Art Deco chevron design, by Sowerby of Gateshead (pattern 2631), measuring approximately 29.9cm (11.75in) long, 17.4cm (6.85in) wide and 8cm (3.15in) deep; whilst this design is fairly often found in amber, green, pink and clear glass, this is the only example in amethyst that we have so far seen. There are numerous manufacturing irregularities including a pattern of uneven wavy lines within the glass to the lower half (which can be felt on the outside) and some small air bubbles; there is some nibbling, chipping and age wear to the feet together with some (mostly light) scratches, slight marks and some slight roughness to the rim in places.
