Shorter and Son Art Deco planter (large, round, blueish green), c.1930s

A large round vintage pottery planter by Shorter and Son, c.1930s, measuring approximately 18.5cm (7.3in) in diameter at the base and 9.7cm (3.8in) in height, finished in blueish green semi-matt glaze with slight yellow mottling, and impressed with an Art Deco multiple pentagon design to the external sides.  To the base is an impressed or incised mark which reads "200 L/S SHORTER ENGLAND", and a printed stamp which reads "CORRY & CO. LTD. / LONDON."  The surface is crazed throughout; there is much scratching, abrasion and other marking to the interior (mostly to the base), and there are a few scratches and marks to the exterior.  There is a small crack to the foot (visible only on the outside), which, in common with some other irregularities to the foot, including a chip which feels smooth, probably dates from manufacture; two smooth moulding seam lines are visible to the external sides.
