Rotary table crumb sweeper in red-brown mottled Bakelite, c.1930s

An unusual c.1930s reddish-brown mottled Bakelite table crumb sweeper with black painted wooden handle, which contains a rotary brush and four small rubber wheels, working on the same principle as the classic Ewbank or Bissell carpet sweeper.  The Bakelite body (with curved lid) measures approximately 14.5 x 8.2 x 4.3cm (5.7 x 3.25 x 1.7in), the handle approximately 9.8cm (3.85in) in length.  Unfortunately one of the corners of the lid has broken off (about 1.5cm / 0.6in each way), and there are a few scuffs and scratches to the Bakelite, as well as slight paint loss to the handle.  The brush is in fairly good condition; however, the internal metal compartments which hold the wheels are somewhat rusty, the mechanism is somewhat stiff, and the wheels themselves, although complete, are somewhat cracked and perished.  In view of these defects, this is for sale as a collectable rather than as a working item.
