Ronald Lewin, "The Chief: Field Marshal Lord Wavell, Commander-in-Chief and Viceroy 1939-1947" (London etc, Hutchinson & Co. Ltd, 1980; ISBN 0 09 142500 X).  Hardcover (brown cloth boards, gilt title to spine) with original dustwrapper, 282pp plus eight pages of black and white illustrations, measuring approximately 14.4 x 22.3 x 2.7cm (5.65 x 8.8 x 1.05in).  Biography of Field Marshal Sir Archibald Percival Wavell, 1st Earl Wavell (1883-1950), who commanded the British forces in the Middle East during World War 2, and was subsequently appointed Viceroy of India.  The dustjacket is faded to the spine, with slight pressure marks to the surface, creasing along the top edge, and foxing, water staining and other marks to the inside; the cover has some discoloration / fading to the upper and lower edges, together with slight wear and bumping to the edges and slight surface wear including a small indentation to the back cover; the pages are discoloured with some foxing (mainly to the page edges, inside covers and adjacent pages), but are otherwise in good clean condition.
