Ridgway chintzware tray or sandwich plate, c.1920s

A Ridgway chintzware rectangular tray, c.1920s, printed with a design of pink and white flowers on a yellow background with gilt rim, and measuring approximately 31 x 15.8 x 2.2cm (12.2 x 6.2 x 0.85in).  The tray, which may have been intended for dressing table use or as a sandwich plate, has a printed Ridgway crown stamp to the base, together with other smaller marks.  The printed design shows considerable wear, especially to the centre, and there is moderate wear to the gilt, together with crazing to most of the surface, staining and discoloration to the base, and some scratching.  The edge of the tray bulges very slightly outwards on one of the long sides, and there are two small nicks - one on each side of the bulge - which may be firing marks.
