A large square "Player's Navy Cut" cardboard box panel (originally part of a box which would have held a very large quantity of cigarettes or tobacco for transport or warehousing), c.1930s-50s, with the famous lifebelt and sailor trade mark printed in red and two shades of blue to the centre; the panel measures approximately 33.3 x 35.7cm (13.1 x 14.05in), whilst the lifebelt is approximately 16.3cm (6.4in) in diameter. There is considerable age wear including creases, scratches, scuffs and indentations together with marking, staining (including considerable damp staining) and fading; there are several staple holes around the edges, which are less faded than the rest of the panel as they were originally covered by the box framework. This unusual vintage item will of course appeal to collectors of tobacciana, but would also make an interesting accessory for a vintage-inspired decorative scheme.
