A fascinating and substantial vintage annual which was intended to combine "Entertainment with Education", commencing with a Foreword by Field Marshal Jan Smuts (Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa), and containing articles on subjects pertinent to the British Empire and Commonwealth (including descriptions of the current political and economic situations of the various territories) with numerous illustrations including several in colour, plus stories (by Hylton Cleaver, C. Haworth and others) and other features including "Your Animal Calendar". No dustjacket; the covers are discoloured and faded in places with various marks including some small patches of white paint, together with age wear including scratches, scuffs and small indentations to the boards, and wear and bumping to the edges and corners; there is some discoloration to the pages together with slight running to the red dye of the upper page edges, other occasional marks, some edge and corner wear including occasional creases and tears, and general reading wear.
