A pair of Victorian moulded glass candlesticks with octagonal bases, square-section stems and swirled ribbed surface, each measuring approximately 23.5cm (9.25in) tall and up to 8cm (3.15in) across at the base, the candle hole being about 2.8cm (1.1in) in diameter. The glass is moulded in two layers: a clear outer layer with deep blueish-green veining / mottling, and an opaque white inner layer, each of which combine with the surface ribbing to good effect. Both candlesticks have several air bubbles and various other manufacturing irregularities including slight roughness to the top edges (together with the odd fleabite); some of the air bubbles form cavities between the two layers of glass, and there are some such cavities open to the top edges, which have filled up with dust and dirt. One has unfortunately suffered a knock to the base, resulting in a hole (about 1cm / 0.4in wide) to one corner plus associated chipping to the base (about 3.8cm / 1.5in across), together with a curved crack extending around one side of the underside and encircling one of the other corners. This, however, does not affect the stability or useabilty of what remains one of a very attractive pair of candlesticks.
