Pair of imitation tortoiseshell dressing table candlesticks, c.1920s (pressed horn?)

A pair of c.1920s dressing table candlesticks in imitation tortoiseshell, each measuring approximately 7cm (2.75in) in height and 7.1cm (2.8in) in diameter at the base; the candle apertures are about 2.1cm (0.85in) in diameter.  The surface has a satin finish with a slightly grainy or crackled texture in some places, which suggests that the sticks may be made of pressed horn; the stems are black, and may be of ebonite or painted wood.  Both candlesticks have moderate general age wear and slight manufacturing irregularities; one has a crack (about 1.8-2cm / 0.7-0.8in long) to the base, and on the other the base is loose, with the stem rotating freely upon it.
