A pair of late Victorian or early 20th century prints of rural scenes with religious texts below, mounted in green painted wooden frames of similar date. The prints themselves, which measure approximately 24.7 x 20cm (9.7 x 7.85in), are marked at the botttom "BIRN BROTHERS, FINE ART PUBLISHERS, 67, 68, 69, 70 BUNHILL ROW, LONDON E.C. / No. 2103 / DESIGNED AT THE LONDON STUDIOS. PRINTED IN GERMANY"; the frames measure approximately 33 x 27.9cm (13 x 11in). The prints appear to be somewhat faded (or at least lacking in red); the grey-buff paper on which they are mounted shows some marks, small patches of discoloration, and vertical buckling (which appears at its worst, we think, in our photos!) The frames are shabby in appearance, having clearly been painted more than once; there has been much chipping and loss to the plaster / gesso surface of the frame, most of which has been covered by the most recent coat of paint (which itself has begun to flake in places); one of the frames has a couple of old woodworm holes (which have been treated).
